A cabinet refacing service is a fairly straightforward process that Cabinet Cures has mastered over the years. With our attention to detail, quality, and craftsmanship, you will have the kitchen of your dreams in no time. Let’s go over the basic steps we take with every project from start to finish, so you know exactly what to expect.
The first step of any cabinet refacing project is to measure. Our measure tech will always start with a drawing of your cabinets. They simply draw out your cabinets and every opening. Once finished with a quick layout, they can start measuring. The measure tech will record the opening width and height of every opening. At this time, they will also measure the various plywood panels and strips needed for the job. Once everything is measured, your doors and moldings can be ordered.
Here at Cabinet Cures, we use a quarter-inch thick, plywood skin for every cabinet refacing project. Most refacing companies strictly use veneer but there are several problems with that. It does not last long and will begin to bubble and peel in no time whatsoever. Our quarter-inch material is durable and is cut to size and installed over the top of your existing cabinetry. We use pin nails and wood glue to ensure that every piece of plywood is secure.
Once your cabinets have their new plywood skins, it is time to start adding moldings. At Cabinet Cures, we have many options to choose from for all of your cabinet refacing needs. We have crown moldings in different styles like shaker, cove, and traditional. Our crown moldings are also available in different sizes. When we reface your cabinets, we use a corner mold where the plywood skins meet to help eliminate any exposed edges. Scribe molding is used where cabinets meet a wall and a base shoe is installed at the bottom of your cabinet toe kick.
With your cabinets refaced and the moldings installed, there is one important step before we are ready to hang doors and that is the touch-up. Because we use pin nails, there are tiny holes throughout the cabinets and moldings. We use a wood fill that we wipe clean and then stain or paint over the top to help make them all disappear.
On the last day of your project, we are ready to hang your brand-new doors! Like the plywood and moldings already installed, the doors were finished in our shop in Sherwood. We hang every door and drawer front, adjust everything accordingly and then it is time to drill for hardware. Just like that, your kitchen has been refaced with a brand-new look.
